Rime Buddhist Center Welcomes Tibetan Buddhist Monk as Geshe in Residence

Distinguished Tibetan monk from the Drepung Gomang Monastery, arrives this month.

The Rime Buddhist Center & Tibetan Institute of Studies, invites you to welcome the arrival of Geshe Tsewang Thinley, during the Sunday service, on March 19th beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by a meet and greet with Geshe Thinley from 12-2 p.m.

During his stay at the Rime Buddhist Center, Geshe Thinley, a representative of the Drepung Gomang Monastery of South India, Thinley will teach Tibetan Buddhist classes, perform religious services, host meditations, and participate in several areas of community outreach. He will remain in residence in Kansas City for up to two years.

Rime Buddhist Center Executive Director, Gabi Otto, comments, “Having Geshe Thinley here is truly a blessing. His knowledge and understanding of Tibetan Buddhism and culture, combined with his warm personality, will be a great resource for the Rime Buddhist Center and the Kansas City community.”

About Geshe Tsewang Thinley

Geshe Lharampa Tsewang Thinley, became a monk at the age of 11, and joined the Drepung Gomang Monastery. Twenty-three years later, in 2008, Thinley was conferred the title of Geshe Lharampa, the equivalent of a Ph.D. in Buddhist Philosophy. In addition to his academic achievements, he has mastered traditional religious rituals that have been performed for centuries within the Tibetan monastic community.While Geshe Thinley’s main residence is in India, he’s traveled to the US before. In 2014-2016, as the Drepung Gomang’s Sacred Art Tour leader, he crisscrossed the US leading the tour, stopping at more than 50 religious centers, including multiple stays in Kansas City.
