God Cares About Money We Make?

Question: “Does God care how much money we make?”

Answer: More important than whether God cares if we make money, is what we do with the money we make. One way to think about money is to think of it in terms of energy. When we do physical work (energy), we are given in exchange this thing we call money. So, this money is not a thing but a transaction, an exchange, a transfer.

Some religions portray money as mammon – that is as a false god – that is evil. However, like all things in the phenomena world, money is neither inherently good, nor bad, but rather depends upon our relationship to it. If we are overly attached to money and think our happiness is dependent upon it, then we will remain stuck in suffering. After all many people in this world are very happy with little or no money. The Talmud says, “The rich man is the man who is satisfied with what he has.”

So rather than mammon or manna, money generally has two conditions that need to be met for it to be a positive force in our lives. One, we must use it responsibly and second we must understand that wealth is not an indication of our self-worth. Instead we must consider ourselves as stewards of this money we have while we are alive. Real happiness isn’t in hoarding money but rather using it for the benefit of others.
