Sunday Dharma School

Sunday Dharma School

Welcome to the Rime Dharma School

Each Sunday, during its regular Sunday service, the Rime Center offers a dharma school for children who are at least three years old.

The class brings the Buddha’s dharma to children in a language that they can easily understand and helps them to develop their own personal practice.

The class is held 10:30-11:45 a.m. in the upstairs space at the Rime Center.

Class Structure

Each class has the same structure and is taught by volunteer parents on a rotating basis:

  1. Offerings
  2. Prostrations
  3. Brief stabilizing meditation
  4. Yoga for kids
  5. Dharma lesson
  6. Activity
  7. Manjushri teaching and mantra
  8. Song for the Dalai Lama
  9. Dedication of Merit
  10. Meditation

On the last Sunday of each month, the children will share some of what they learned with the sangha by participating in part of the Sunday service.

Dharma School Schedule and Topics

Each month a different dharma topic is covered. On the second Sunday of each month, we have a special guest – Mr. Matt, better known as Matt Barr, Rime member and Director of Lavonna Peterson Montessori School in Westport. He is the author of Teaching Meditation to Children.

Rime Dharma School Policies

To ensure that the school runs safely and smoothly, we have adopted the following policies:

  • Parents must sign children in and out of class.
  • Parents of younger children should sit in the rear of the shrine room downstairs so that they can take their own children to the bathroom. A teacher will bring the children down to the shrine room.
  • There will always be two teachers present during class – one will serve as the lead teacher, the other will assist.
  • 3 yr olds need a parent to stay with them
