Current Practice Oriented Programs

The following are current ongoing programs we offer members of the general public who are interested in pursuing a spiritual path in the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism. Be sure to check our schedule for information on current offerings.

Weekly Sunday Services
Every Sunday the Center offers a Buddhist service beginning at 10:30 a.m. The service includes: meditation, chanting, singing, offerings and a dharma talk.

Weekly Text & Commentary Class
Wednesday night teaching sessions. This begins with meditation, followed by a lecture and a discussion period. These evenings are open to the general public.

Retreat Programs
A few times a year visiting Tibetan teachers will lead both residential and non-residential retreats. These retreats are designed to help the student deepen their practice and connection to the Path.

Community Outreach

The following programs are intended as vehicles for the Rime Center to perform community service.

Prison Outreach Program: The Rime Center has established a Buddhist group at Lansing prison. As a result of correspondence from a prisoner requesting to learn more about Buddhism, Lama Chuck Stanford and other members began regular visits with the prisoners in February of 2001. This has resulted in a small sangha that meets with Lama Chuck and other volunteers every Saturday evening. Check the schedule and calendar for regular or special events.

Hospital Outreach Program: Hospital Outreach Chair Morgan McGee will be training volunteers for the Hospital/Hospice Outreach Program in January. Please see the schedule for more information.

Soup Kitchen: Our community outreach coordinator, Donna Jayne, along with other volunteers, help with food preparation every first Saturday of the month at the Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral (13th & Broadway) from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Grace & Holy Trinity opens their soup kitchen at noon every weekday, and we offer our help getting food ready for the week.

Special Programs

The Rime Buddhist Center has hosted a number of special programs. These programs have included seminars on Tibetan medicine, retreats, empowerments and teachings by a host of teachers. Some of the teachers include: Ven. Khamtrul Rinpoche, Ven. Wangdor Rinpoche, Ven. Khachab Rinpoche, Ven. Lodu Rinpoche and others. In the future, we plan to incorporate programs with the health care community, including stress-reduction, recovery from substance abuse, and other community support groups.

Policy of Non-Discrimination

The Rime Buddhist Center affirms a policy of non-discrimination in its admissions and educational policies. No qualified person shall be denied admission or be subjected to discrimination in recruitment, educational policies, financial assistance, or any other program offered by the Center on the basis of race, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, or physical disability.
