Join us for a weekend immersion into the profound meditation instructions of Mahamudra as presented by the 9th Karmapa, Wangchuk Dorje, in his classic text Ocean of Definitive Meaning. This retreat offers a rare opportunity to engage deeply with the essential practices of shamatha (calm abiding) and vipashyana (insight)—the direct path to recognizing the nature of mind.

Drawing from authentic Kagyu lineage instructions, we will explore how to settle the body and mind, allowing thoughts to naturally pacify and awareness to reveal its inherent clarity and openness. As the text emphasizes, when the body is properly aligned and the mind rests without contrivance—free from fixation on past, future, or present—nonconceptual wisdom naturally arises.

Participants will receive practical guidance on:

  • Establishing the meditation posture and its subtle energetic effects
  • Resting the mind in its natural state beyond effort and contrivance
  • Working skillfully with thoughts—neither suppressing nor following them
  • Integrating clarity and emptiness in both formal practice and daily life

This retreat is open to all sincere practitioners. However, it will be especially beneficial for those who have previously received Mahamudra pointing-out instructions, as the teachings will build directly on recognizing and stabilizing the nature of mind.

  • Friday, May 22: Opening Teachings (7:00–9:00 PM)
  • Saturday, May 23: Full Day of Practice (6:00 AM–4:30 PM)
