Taking refuge in the Three Jewels—Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha—is the essential foundation for entering the Buddhist path. This act marks a deep commitment to spiritual awakening and establishes a formal relationship with the teachings of the Buddha. Known as the Precious Triple Gem, these three sources of guidance and protection support the seeker on their journey toward liberation.

The refuge ceremony is the moment one officially becomes a Buddhist. It is a heartfelt declaration of one’s intention to walk the path of wisdom, compassion, and ethical living.

This event will be during the Sunday Service, culminating in the refuge ceremony. During the ceremony, participants will also receive a refuge name, symbolizing a new beginning on the path.

There is no required fee to attend, though offering dana (generosity) to the preceptor is encouraged as a traditional expression of gratitude and support.

Preceptor: Lama Matthew Palden Gocha
Prerequisite: Preparing for the Refuge Vows
