Rime Center Commemorates Saka Dawa Day

All Day Practice – Tuesday, June 2, 2015

Saka Dawa is the holiest holiday on the Buddhist calendar. It recognizes the Buddha’s: birth, enlightenment and death. We will start the day at 5:30 a.m. by giving the “Eight Mahayana Precepts” to those would like to receive them. These five precepts (plus three more) are taken for only 24 hours. By taking these eight precepts and keeping them for 24 hours it is considered have merit beyond measure.

We will commemorate the day with Pujas for Shakyamuni Buddha along with periods of open meditation sessions. Continue reading

Rime’s Efforts To Get Guns Off The Streets

This Friday, May 15th at 11:00 a.m.

You are invited to attend a press conference this Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime headquarters located at 3116 Prospect Ave, Kansas City, MO  I will be delivering a cache of weapons (hand guns and rifles)  to the KCMO Police Dept. for destruction thus keeping them off the streets of our city.  I came into possession of these weapons through an anonymous donor. It is my belief the best place for these weapons is to make sure they stay off the streets and thus eliminate any possibility of them harming other beings.

Dr. Allan and Mrs. Rita Crandell’s Trip to Bhutan

We are so fortunate to have Dr. Allan Crandell and his wife Rita share with us their photos and journey to Bhutan. They went to Bhutan under the auspices of Health Volunteers Overseas, a volunteer medical project linking Western clinicians and physicians with Bhutan, generally connected with the Jigme Dorji Wangchuk National Referral Hospital in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Besides seeing and treating patients, they also hiked on weekends and most hikes end up on top of a hill at a Buddhist monastery or nunnery. They had the good fortune to be able to travel to the eastern, more rural part of Bhutan, graced by sightings of the rare and endangered black-necked cranes. They visited the Haa Valley, mountain passes where the Eastern Himalayas are stunningly in view and Punakha, which is a verdant, warm valley with oranges, mangoes and poinsettias in profusion. They will share photos and discuss their trip.

Help Alleviate Suffering From the Devastating Earthquake in Nepal

From Lama Chuck: Mary and I have visited Nepal and have several Tibetan refugee friends who live both in Pokhara, and in Katmandhu Nepal. We are so grateful to receive word that they are safe. Of course we can offer our prayers and intentions to alleviate the widespread suffering. But we can also contribute financially. Even a little money will go a long way. There are many NGOs relief organizations so it is difficult knowing which one’s to donate money to. There are several very wonderful private NGO non-profits I recommend: Global Action Nepal is excellent, and our own local Heart to Heart International is already sending medical supplies and teams of medical personnel to Nepal. They will also accept volunteers, but you must pay your own way. But there is one NGO: International Medical Corps where your money will go the farthest. They have teamed up with FaceBook, who will match dollar for dollar all donations up to two million dollars!
